Replacing factory carpet & insulation with a lighter variety

I used to have a BMW 2002 that I stripped the factory carpet out of and replaced with a lighter version. After looking at that yellow boxter in all the pelican articules it looks like they did the same thing. Has anyone done this? Or has anyone pulled the carpet and been able to piece together a tidy looking interior?

I did it on another car recently. First, I ripped up the carpet and stripped all the sound deadening in the interior. Then I went to home depot, got 5/8" carpet insulation ( super light), cut it into several neat sections to fit the floor, and glued it with contact cement.

The car was a 944 turbo, and I already had an ebay carpet kit ( perlon ).

If no one makes a light carpet kit for the 986, you can get a roll of carpet in the color you like, make outlines of your carpet on cardboard, and cut sections out.

It should be good for a decent weight loss, and you can still run in a stock class. Just remember -unless you're going to go all out and gut everything in the interior, spend 5000 on suspension, run huge 10" wide slicks front and rear... its cheaper and easier to stay in the stock classes.

Anyone will tell you that the driver mod is the best mod...
