1998 Boxster Transmission Problem (tiptronic)
I got my 1998 Boxster tiptronic transmission checked because the gears weren't shifting properly and it would jerk once the gears did change. Also at cruising speeds (35-45 mph) the transmission would flair causing my revs to bounce up and down. Turns out I need the clutch plates to be replaced and luckily there is nothing broken. However, the job to fix it is going to cost over $3,000 and I need some advice (vehicle has over 142,000 miles on it).
1. Is there a recommended shop in LA or Orange County where I can get it repaired for a good price? 2. Are there any used transmissions that are compatible with my Boxster? (BMW or VW?) If so, is that the better route to take? To get another transmission installed or repair my current one? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |
You have a common transmission that is used in many cars. it technically a called a ZF 5HP19
The hard part is the name plate PORSCHE and the work required to remove the transmission. Call around and find out who does these trans well. With a transmission this widely used it should not be hard.
