new car noises and smells??

As some of you already know i just bought my first porsche. It is as close to new as they come with just 3100 miles.

When i shut the car off the engine or exhaust "ticks" I can imagine the metals have to expand and contrast, maybe settle as the cars broken in?

Also there is a slight rubber smell. The car was "inspected" so i would imagine the belt and tensioner were looked over. Anybody broke one of these in before? Its an '03 2.7 with the 5 speed..

Both are normal. Look underneath. Your big fat tires are right by the hot exhaust. That's the smell of fun.

Porsche - oil, rubber and leather - that should be a man's cologne
Cool down ticks - music of a sports car - like wind chimes

Be careful about only 3100 miles - your car is still 10-11 years old
Just think about a piece of rubber sitting in you garage for 10-11 years. What kind of elasticity and flexibility would it still have.
Your car has lots of oil containing rubber seals.
Don't get me wrong, it must be nice to only have 3100 miles on your 986.
On the other hand if your going to start driving this car the way it was designed after 10 years, you really need to be carefully watch all those areas (Spark plug tubes, oil cooler, water pump, coolant tank and more) for seeping

Jimmy, where in Illinois? Who's going to service your car? I'd suggest Fischer Motors if you are in the Chicagoland burbs.
