Pass Door Hitting Door Sill (Autocross Stress?)
 

Apparently no one else sees this problem (google/986 search = no joy)?
My cherry 70K 2002 S with ROW M030 suspension has developed chips in the passenger door sill, with a matching scuffed line on the lower aft door edge. I've checked the hinge bolts and striker plate, and all is as tight as new. The door gap is perfect on driver and pass side (about 6mm). Does the stiffer ROW suspension twist the body enough in battle (regular autocrosses) to make the door hit the sill? No marks at all on the drivers side. Weird!

Have you checked the hinge bolts to see if they're loose?

I had this happen to me, both sides are chipped(chipped doesn't really capture it). It happened after a very unfortunate, very irresponsible high speed run over a hill that caused me to go airborne and crash into the road at a very steep angle(and then slid through a corn field). It ripped the paint off the doors and where the body meets the doors(from the doors hitting the chassis). Since then I've had two Porsche shops tell me they've never seen anything like that. I never do this kind of thing but I had just gotten the car and was being stupid.

Is it possible the marks are from a stone or similar object that may have been compressed between the sill/door when closing ? I would take a piece of tape like duct or painters and put it on the sill and then open/close the door does it scrape/scratch the tape ?

No, as I pointed out there's a factory 6mm gap all around the doors on both sides, parked. Now it IS possible a threw a rock at the AX ( the stadium asphalt is in bad shape), and it got jammed in there! Next time, I'm taping the pass door before I race...
