brake pad recommendation ?
 

2002 S that will need rear brake pads soon so I think I'll do all four corners to get a good baseline as the car is new to me. On past air cooled Porsche's I have used Porterfield brake pads with great results any of you running these on your Boxsters ? Specifically R4S compound. Just looking for a little more bite for street/AX while maintaining rotor friendly with minimal dust........not asking much :D. I'd like to hear what others are using.

I also use EBC Redstuff (on the 996). Its a great street/track pad with excellent initial bite and won't easily fade. Also, since its a ceramic pad you'll see a 75% reduction in brake dust compared to OEM pads.

Try the Mintex pads. They are the cheapest OEM pads. About $60 for the fronts. They have a better coefficient of friction than the very expensive Brembos which gives the Mintex a very good initial bite, on thenstreetnor track. I have used themon the track and they are great. No fade, but you will go through about half the pad on a DE event. They are very easy on the rotors.

On the street they are fine, very little dust, no noise.

To me it's a no brainier. Unless you are really racing, stock pads work fine.

For you guys running the EBC Red Stuff pads I was reading some online feedback and there were some complaints about noise and the lack of a mounting spot for the OEM wear sensor. Have you had these issues ? I will look into the Mintex. Thanks guys

I run the red stuff. No issues with sensor mounting. I had a little squeak the first month or so in stop and go traffic and light braking but now it is gone. I ended up getting them off ebay last fall for under $150 for fronts and backs.

Cheapest I have found so far for the EBC red is a place called " Place for brakes ". They want $107.73 front and $98.19 rear with free shipping. I'll continue to look around I don't have to pull the trigger just yet and I need to determine if I can turn the existing rotors or replace.

I'm on Ferodo DS2500 for front only. No wear slot so sensor shorted and tied out the way.

They have the hole for the brake sensor. A bit of squeal is normal until the pad is bedded in around 100 miles. After that, perfectly quiet.

I've had EBC red and they run fairly well. I have not had a problem with the EBC at all with the sensor holes they fit and align as well as the OE pads do and with less dust in the red pads.
