$300 Versus $35 Durametric

Does anyone have experience with the $35 Durametric? I need to reset the airbag light because I made the idiot move of starting the car with the drivers side airbag out. What do you get for the extra $265?

The cheap one is a Chinese knock off of an old, out of date, and no longer supported Durametric system that can never be updated. Some of these things have also caused DME issues. For the extra cash you get the most current version of the system, with support, and unlimited future updates.

Take it to the dealer for free?? Have them clear it?? The dealership on the southside of town has been pretty good about *minor* stuff in the past.

Do you have any links to specific examples of DME issues caused by "clone cables"?
I'd be interested to see the info since I've been specifically looking for instances such as that and have found nothing.

Thanks! ;)

We had two customers that tried coding (activating the OBC) with the knock off and had their DME lock up (cars would not start, connecting a known Durametric Pro system did not help). Neither were unable to get either system back up, but a re-flash with a PIWIS got both going again.

That sucks as that is one of 2 things that I specifically want a cable for.
Better to spend more now than go through all that.

Just be aware that some coding items, like activating cruise control, is only available in the Pro system, not the Enthusiast version. You may want to check directly with Durametric, but I believe the OBC is still available in the Enthusiast version.

You can activate the OBC with the Enthusiast version; I did it last year.
