Catalytic Converter/exhaust Questions

Hi,

I'll do my best to answer all catalytic converter questions.

My background:

--Held monthly Converter/exhaust Seminars all over the country for Car Sound's distributors and the shops they sold to.

--Worked closely with our engineering team for diagnosing converter problems from failed emmisions testing.

So what's the low down on the Magnaflow exhaust. Available? Prototype?

Here's the scoop:

I got my car back last week from the MF Tech Center. MF likes the ease of install and sound. The only other question in Quantity. If production costs and quantity make send then perhaps a couple months, well see. I'm definitely pushing for Boxster exhausts...every week :D

Awesome sound, couldn't be happier. Performance wise, it needs to be dyno'd.

Once MF decides to do the kit, my car will go in for some dyno work and re-tuning if needed will comence. MF confirms the before and after improvements on all cat-back systems with the in-house dyno. If it doesn't make enough or no increase, the system gets re-worked. In fact you'll be surprised how many after market tuners rely on MF for thier kits. I won't say but it 's very interesting more onteh domestic, some imports.

I have been thinking of making my own magnaflow exhaust. What mufflers did you use? I was thinking of the 4" or 6" round stainless mufflers with a couple of their stainless tips.

I'll post the measurements and part #'s tomorrow, plus some better highlighted pics if I can get some good pics at night or early AM.

Are there any header systems for the boxster S that have pre-drilled holes for the O2 bungs?

There are, you can try Fabspeed motorsports or Dansk headers. But you won't see any HP improvements. The forum has had a number of Members (Private Message CARMOS) that really have not had any luck with them. I know Carmos has some threads so do a search on "headers" and his posts will come up.

With the O2 bung locations it is CRITICAL to have the bung located within 1/4 inch of the OEM location. Otherwise you risk burning up your converters and getting the wonderful CEL.

Should the header not have a bung already, take it into your local muffler shop where they can drill and install the bung and thread in your O2 sensor, no problem and be sure there are no holes or leaks which can cause problems too.

To locate a muffler shop in your area click on this link:

Hope this info helped.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but 1/4" measured from ... where?

1/4 inch from the Original location, either upstream or downstream of the O2 sensor bung located on the Exhaust manifold that was just taken off your car or exhaust tubing.

Is that still confusing?

The mufflers used on my car were the oval mufflers, check out my pics I just loaded up under the KRZ's 2000 986 S pics.
