cdr 220 won't play cds

My stereo won't load cds. I get an "error" code and then nothing, it defaults back to the radio. The last cd I played skipped quite a bit, but the cd was pretty old and scratched.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my CDR220.

I had four choices: 1) have the CDR220 repaired; 2) buy a new CDR220; 3) buy a used CDR220; 4) buy an after market radio.

a) Repair costs were sky high
b) New CDR220s are sky high
c) Used CDR220s were priced reasonably
d) Aftermarket radios don't look good in the dash, but are better in every way

I decided to purchased an used CDR220 for $85.00.

Just get a new unit.
I have an Alpine unit in mine that syncs up with my IPhone wirelessly upon starting the car, and I can play pandora, stream music from itunes match, or books on tape or whatever. The days of carrying CDs are gone.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those curmudgeon types that "don't need them newfangled ee-lectronics that the young'uns have."

I'll try a cleaner CD from radio shack and if that doesn't work, I'll try used.

Is the CD a burned copy or the real deal? Some burned copies don't play real well.

Boxster 2000 CD "ERROR"

Hi guys, this seems to be an old thread, but I just had this issue popping up a couple of weeks ago. One of them mysterious problems, like apparently any other Porsche problem, one minute it's perfect, you turn the car on again, and just like magic, a new problem says hello.

I went to work listening to my cd, no problems, original cd, no copies, no skipping.

Finished work, started my car to go back home, and there it was "ERROR", straight to radio.

Any one knows what causes it?
Thanks and cheers.
