Ipod adapter install.

Anyone have experience with this type of Ipod adapter?
I have installed the cradle and the adapter cable, but held off on the power leads until I could find a place to connect them to. As you can see, this cable only has the single blue plug and bare red and black wires. Any ideas as to where these two wires can be connected to?

That's a lot like what I got from iWireP - Porsche iPod & iPhone Connector Cables for Boxster 986 and Carrera 996, except for the extra wires you're showing. Sorry I can shed any light.
It is a great iPod integration solution.

Are they just 12V power leads? Any power source would work (cig lighter).

you have two options.

option 1.
remove the head unit (which you will need to do anyway to connect the blue plug), locate the main power plug (red arrow) and connect to the red wire for constant power, and brown wire for ground. i'm writing this from the top of my head, so please confirm the wires by using a test lamp, and looking at the wire table on the top of the device (yellow arrow).

option 2.
remove the compartment/cd holder under the head unit.
you will find a loose connector, which belong to the optional porsche build in cell phone hands free kit (or something like that).

if i remember correctly, main power is red with green strip, and ground is brown (again, use a test lamp or voltmeter to confirm)

good luck with the install.

I don't remember how I wired it up, but I do remember I had to install a ground loop isolator as well.

I'd expect the cable in question would just be providing 12v charging capability, in which case particlewave is correct any power lead should do. One key difference to consider though is that certain 12v leads are always on (such as the one leading to the yellow plug) and certain other ones are on when the ignition is engaged (such as the power leads to the extra cd-changer and *likely* the cellphone adaptor). I'm not 100% sure about that last one.

The head unit is tied into the alarm system in these cars so certain parts of its circuitry always receive power from the car's battery.

Thanks to all for the help.

Any good sources on the ground loop isolator?

Thanks again!
