Slipped into a ditch this morning on a suddenly iced over road. Got towed out and headed to work. Noticed only cold air coming from the vents and then my temperature gauge started climbing; got to 250 before I could pull over. Towed again to shop and discovered punctured radiator.:ah: My question is, have I damaged the engine from overheating for a few minutes?

No.
Usually when you run into problems is when you run the car until it dies out from over heating.
Im guessing youre fine.

Yes depends on how hot, for how long & condition of your oil.

You should replace radiator, Behr had these on backorder recently so you may have to go to Porsche or used. Saw some on E-bay recently. While this work is being done & before driving should change oil & carefully inspect filter for wear metals.

On the up-side, now might be a good time to install a center radiator, new water pump, and/or low temperature thermostat.

I will have to side with evomind's opinion. Unfortunately I had the experience of driving with no coolant for a mile, but I was fine. Got the radiator replaced, coolant drained, then filled, then bled.

Thanks guys for the info. Oil was changed two weeks ago but will do it again to be safe. Water pump and low temp thermostat has been done already. I'll keep a close eye after I get it back.

Other may know better than me, but I'd suggest this. Pull the oil filter only and inspect. Look for wear metal and coolant mixed in. If all looks OK, the leave the two week old oil alone, install new filter and crush ring, and top off. Also check the coolant reservoir for oil mixed in.

Have you inspected your under body and suspension?

The insurance adjuster looked at it today and added the underbody and wheel liners to the repair. Radiator hasn't made it in yet. You guys remember a bumper sticker that said "My other car is a Porsche"? I'm getting one for the Boxster that says "My other car is a rental car"

Got the Boxster back this past weekend and drove to work today(52 miles). Added a little coolant at noon before going to lunch. Drove home, slow flashing light on temp gauge but held steady at 180. The road iced upso I drove slow the last two miles home and the temp went up to 210. By the time I pulled into the garage, steam was coming from the right front wheel well and had that nice anti-freeze smell. Thoughts?

Does the system need a better way of bleeding? What's a Uview?

Make sure the bleeder valve is open. Sounds like you had a airpocket in the coolant passages that burped out when the temp got to hot.

Uview is a vacum filling tool that should prevent air pockets in coolant passages during initial fill. Any shop doing this work should use it to prevent what happened to you. :mad:
