Good job on this project. Keep us updated. I think rebuilds should be done in pairs!

Thanks for that, I am taking it "slow" in many ways until spring. Regarding rebuilding in pairs I must say that one engine was a handful for both me and my pocketbook. But talking of pairs, I still have the old working 60K miles double row 3.2 engine in the garage. I had planed to sell it to recover some of my cost.

Yes, 3+ years ago we built a 3.6 LN engine with a 987 CaymanS intake (easier to fit under a 987 engine cover) which is a direct fit for the 986.

I thought the 987 cayman S has a resonance flap on its intake plenum? Did you tee off the resonance flap vacuum line to run it?

I believe we left it "open" I have slept since then, and the car is in Texas.

Interesting. I've been wondering if you could run it off the resonance flap vacuum line. I wondered how it would affect intake charging if both the resonance flap and plenum flap were closed and allowed the 986 to run as two 3 liter engines.
At around 5k rpm I think the 986 resonance flap opens so if we could tee that vacuum line, it might be possible to get the extra airflow advantage at high rpm, and retain low end torque.
Not sure if this is possible... Just a thought
