Black paint on 987 HVAC controls peeling off
The black soft touch paint on the dash HVAC controls is starting to peel off, what can I use to paint it back on?
Nail polish? Plasti-dip? something else? here's a picture I found online of what it looks like when it's peeling off http://i56.tinypic.com/6sunwm.jpg |
After you eat Culpepper wings, wash your hands, and this won't happen.:)

I found my own solution
before: http://i42.tinypic.com/w8q5h3.jpg after: http://i44.tinypic.com/vx2qsi.jpg hardest part was finding the right color paint because the controls are not black. I found that out the hard way by putting some black paint on the underside of the fan switch on the right side that you can see in the photos is very dark compared to the switch. After much searching I found the switches are a perfect match for FolkArt Acrylic Paint color Licorice 938 for less than $1 from Walmart http://i40.tinypic.com/30x78nb.jpghttp://i42.tinypic.com/349cigl.jpg using a fine tip artist brush I gently painted the switches and this is the result: http://i41.tinypic.com/25k76o4.jpghttp://i43.tinypic.com/2ci6yip.jpg a little globby in areas but no one will notice unless you point it out to them, the photos don't really do it justice, the color match is 100% perfect 2 ounce bottle is enough to do hundreds of porsches, I used less than a drop to paint the controls I don't know how long the paint will last on there but at this price I wouldn't mind touching them up again in a few months if it does flake off. |
Plasti-dip

Ya gotta wonder if Porsche sells the switches like they do on the 986. Mine were worn so I just bought new ones and popped them in.

I was told that you could use a sharpie to color it in. Don't know how that turns out. Here is a write up on how to take that piece out and repaint it. Plan on doing this sometime this Fall whenI have a good bit of time on my hands.
