My IMS fail story

:dance:I reported about 6 weeks ago that my IMS failed. The car puked copious amounts of Mobil One onto my garage floor. I had the car towed to Porsche. PCNA sent a rep and confirmed the IMS failure. I have a 2004 Base boxster. Porsche informed me they would replace the engine and cover 90% of the cost. Approximate out of pocket expense would be $3,000.00. I contacted the non-Porsche delaer I purchased the car from in March. I had only put 2,300 miles on it, and had 51,800 at time of failure. I gave the dealer the option to buy the car back, or pay the additional 10%. He agreed to pay the 10%. Porsche replaced the engine, and installed a new clutch. The pressure plate was not replaced. Now I have a new engine with a 2 year-no mileage limitation engine, and a new clutch. Total out of pocket from the dealer covering the 10% was $3,378.00. Total out of pocket for me? Zero. I feel much better now than I did the night this happened.

Sweet-- congrats! It's nice to hear about a bad situation that ends well.

Congratulations! I guess you are "lucky" it failed so fast!

Would you mind buying some lottery tickets for me?? Congrats! I love to hear positive stories, glad it worked out!

This seems to good to be true. There has got to be more to this story. Why would Porsche decide to replace your 10 year old engine?

Was there an extended warranty involved?

Is the law suite effecting the way Porsche is looking at their older cars?

What are the details the would cause this kind of responsible corporate behavior?

This is not a story but a Fairy Tale where the Frog turns into a Prince.

Lucky You, enjoy

Holy crap. That is BY FAR the best possible outcome. The only thing better would be if the new engine had the IMS Solution installed...

These are all good questions here. I am happy for your outcome. Highly unusual. I don't know what I would do if it happened to my 2001 Box base. :)

Great story but still a sad story for the 986 community. Unfortunately, most of us do not have that safeguard or insurance.

You are the first person I have heard of that came out this good in many years!

Excellent!
