Windshield rubber/seal & trim
Hi,
Need your help for a link to this rubber seal for my windshield. I'm replacing the windshield because a stone kiss it http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1381936341.jpg You can see in the pic where the stone hit and the rubber seal that I need Thanks Yaron |
Not an expert but soon to be doing the same on mine (winter project). heard there are two models for our 986.
One for cars with chassis number 98XS6 03403 >> Onwards Another for cars with chassis number up to >>98XS6 03402 I'd just email my VIN to your dealership there and ask them to order the correct one. They are ridiculously cheap... cost $50 or something ps. you sure a rock did that?! (just jokin) |

It seems that I need the rubber and the silver trim because when they will take out the windshield the trim will be broken. they told me they are going to install a rubber without trim. not oem. what do you think? |
Can't help on that... you are asking a guy who would give everything for 'chrome' trims to be exterminate forever. Reminds me the old cars my dad used to bring back home 20+ years ago. I'd say just go black rubber as per recommendation

The original chrome trim is for decoration only..... |
We have two 986s in the family since new, a car built in spring of '97 and a 2004 S, both with original glass and rubber. The '97 has a plain rubber seal. The 2004 has an added narrow decorative band, not chrome but similar to the GT silver body color.
The early version has an unpleasant issue of separating itself from the glass and window frame, bulging outward at the upper corners leaving a gap. |
I had my windshield replaced at a P-dealer 4-5 yrs ago with an oem windshield. They were able to reuse and not damage the metallic looking trim ('00 S). Not sure how or why???

Go get it repaired immediately before it spreads. That rock bash is totally repairable and you won't need to spend the cash on a new windshield. I have had numerous spots like that repaired on vehicles, with my insurance it doesn't even cost you a penny to repair. Virtually invisible repair too.;)
