Good price on Mobil1
Out here in pickup truck country the walmart has never carried oil that is right for a Porsche. Well tonight I couldn't believe they had Mobil1 0W40 for $44 (10qrts). I have left over filters from the deals at the auto stores so looks like I can git'er dun for under 45 bucks.

im switching over to 5-40. but ive never seen 0 40 at walmart

In the past, I've come across 0-40w at a local Walmart as well. But, I run Motul these days.

I believe it's 24 bucks for a 4tub .
I'd rather eat my own **************** than shop at Walmart so I get the 6x1 boxes at pep boys when they're on offer . In fact I must go look if they have a 4th July sale .... |

0-40 ? Is that safe ? I would be afraid to put something that thin in my car here in Idaho. I use 10-40 year round with 77K miles.

The local Walmart here in West Chicago carries Mobile one 0W40 for a tad under $23. Nice price but i sure wish they carried the 5W40.

Here in Central Texas it tends to get hot. I started off using Mobil 1 10W40 High Mileage. I've switched over to Mobil 1 15W50. Both are about $23.00 per 5 quart jug at Walmart. Now if only Mobil sold a 10W40 or 15W50 Extended Performance Mobil 1. They had 5W40 also I was very surprised. I normally get oil at AdvanceAutoParts when they have the deals. Since the deals don't have Porsche filters in the brand they offer the guy gives me the $13 Purolator instead. Over time I saved up a few so it made sense to get the oil in these 5qrt jugs from Walmart since I still have filters.

You say you have 191K on your 1999. I now have 110K on my 1998. What all have you had to replace or upgrade in your Boxster's second millennial? I have replaced water pump, AOS, stabilizer rods, drive belt and no sign of smoke. I change oil every 7,000 miles. |

I purchased my 1999 Boxster in Sep 99, it had 104, 000 miles. Here is my story of woe: new chain tensioner 105,000 miles (dealer) water pump when out at 109,000 miles (dealer) another chain tensioner and guides 117,900 miles (dealer) new AOS at 120,000 miles (dealer) air injection check valve & air pump 128,000 miles (indy) fuel pump/relay/crankshaft sensor 139,000 miles (indy) new water pump 166,000 miles (indy) new oxygen sensors 168,000 miles (indy) I do my own oil/filter changes, spark plugs, brakes pads/rotors. I've saved a ton of money. Besides scheduled maintenance, I haven't had to put any money in it for about a year now. I did buy a muffler (just for the sound and the twin tips, $299 off Ebay) and last month I replaced the seats with sport seats from a 2001 Boxster S. I got a super sweet deal on the seats. [I transported the seats one on top of the other on my passenger seat, with the top down, from Bastrop thru Austin & Round Rock. When I stopped at the Rudy's off I-35 people thought I had some new fangled child car seat:-)] I've learned there is no good reason for me to have anything done at a Porsche dealer. If I can reach 250,000 miles in this car, then all the money I spent at the dealer might have been worthwhile. MNC-I |
