Car booked into weight watchers.
I've accepted that I can't squeeze much power out of the 2.5 so I'm aiming for weight loss.
Anyone know how much a stock set of leather front seats weigh. |
Don't stop there.....

GemballaPhil,
I just replaced the standard seats in my 1999 Boxster with sport seats. I would estimate each standard seat weighs approximately 35 to 45 lbs. MNC-I |
Standard leather seats with power recline weigh around 45lbs each. Sport or race seats will weight less than half that.
Research what Boxster BSX's remove (Boxster Spec cars that are still street legal). Topless might want to jump in here. |
Anyone know if the oem Porsche "sport" seats with the shoulder bolster weigh more or less than the standard leather/power back seats?
|
The stock exhaust is impressively heavy. I'd guess 45lbs, the eBay units are about 20 I've stripped quite of my 2.5 and can feel a difference, you can cut quite a bit of weight without sacrificing anything. I really wish you could get a Spyder style top and loose the whole mechanical top assembly. If you really want to go for it there is a lot of weight in the bumpers...but that's probably not a great idea
So far (60lbs)Stock seats trades for GT3 flebay seats (10lbs)Cat delete (25lbs)Exhaust (10lbs)automatic top motor, gearbox and mechanicals (5lbs)insulation on firewall ~110lbs |
Running at about only 1/4 full tank of fuel will drop about 72 lbs.
12 gal @ lbs/gallon. |

By going "commando" you can shed several ounces via an underwear delete. Just use caution when opening or closing the clamshell.

personally I think they made it too complicated - you have to bring your car to florida to get it fitted. I would rather a fg shell that fastens at the spinlocks and rear trunk latch and that's it. still waiting.
for weight, seats are a good one. beware the cheap knockoff seats. without some form of certification (ie, fia) you are taking a chance with a very important piece of safety gear. if you do a bumper delete, better figure out how you tow your car if you need too (tow hooks screw into the bumper). LW battery will get you 20 lbs or so. you know those braille batteries they sell on suncoast? they are just rebranded deka batteries; check out the deka etx14 and an $8 terminal kit (take care on which side the +'ve terminal is - you can get either). and forget expensive custom battery brackets; another $8 at any autoparts store will get you a universal bracket that fits. air conditioning pump weighs 20 lbs or so. oz allegheritta wheels (sp?) are relatively inexpensive, look excellent (really fill out the wheel wells) and save a minimum of 5 lbs rotating mass at each corner. secondary air injection pump is light, but removing it gets rid of 50% of the hoses cluttering up the top of the engine (the other 50% is that f'ing aos ...). take a dump before you drive and get titanium fillings in your teeth. good for a few more pounds. |
My stock seats were about 50lbs ea. with rails and mounts. Cobra FIA seats bolted to the floor with FIA mounts are about 25lb ea.
Stock battery, 45lbs >>> Shorai lightweight 5lbs Stock exhaust 45lbs >>> lightweight loud-ass muffler 20lbs ( I didn't do this) Spare and tool kit- 30lbs Carpet kit around motor and floormats 22lbs I like A/C and a working top so I left em alone. 160lbs might be worth 1-2 seconds per lap on a racetrack when you don't have a ton of HP to work with. Depends on the track and the driver. |
Ha! I often wondered about the weight savings if any by filling the tires with helium.
Do we have any physicist's out there? |

Looks like the bucket seats are a no go for me. I use the car on my day off to take my 13 month old girl places and a child seat just won't fit. I've been researching and there's no bucket seat wide enough and no child seat narrow enough. Smallest width child seat I found was 45cm and the widest bucket seat is 41cm. 😔
I've got cold air induction filter , ud pulley , headers , decat pipes and exhaust. Though my exhaust is getting lighter every time I drive the car. It's spitting all the wadding out and getting louder, I don't think it's gonna stop. The spares gone and the tool kit. I use it as I said and for track days so was looking for a little bit more of an edge. |
put a gt3 seat in the driver and swap the passenger between stock and gt3 as required - four bolts.
|
The previous owner of my old GT3 had some sort of Porsche option that allowed the install of a child seat in the euro GT3 seat.
|
Lost 41.5kg this weekend. Sub and amps gone, spare wheel and tool kit. Don't want to lose to much luxury.
I'm gonna just take out the passenger seat when I go track days. |
If you don't want to lose luxury, definutely do not install racing seats!
The car is fine once you are seated, but getting in and out is not so much fun. Not really very practical for everyday use. |
