Clutch Safety Switch

About five weeks ago my car started cranking only when it felt like. The symptoms fir a bad CSS so I replaced the switch and it cranked fine for about three weeks, Then one day it didn't start so I zip tied the CSS and it started right up. Then a week ago it wouldn't crank. I noticed that when I was trying to crank it that if it jiggled the gear shift lever while it was in neutral it would sometimes crank. Is there a safety switch around the transmission that would activate when the clutch wasn't depressed and someone attempted to crank it?
