New RUF Boxster S conversion
This car is featured in the lastest issue of Excellence magazine.
Interesting, no price and no performance stats. Strange way to road test a car, no? Supposedly at 355 HP I believe. Anyone up for a $100K Boxster S? From the Ruff site 2005-2006 Boxster S: "RUF offers a 3.8 liter 997 Carrera S Engine Conversion for the 2005-2006 Boxster S. Each conversion includes a crate motor from Porsche, complete RUF exhaust (headers, sport cats, muffler), RUF air intake, RUF tuned 997 ECU, all necessary wiring, hardware and labor. The RUF 3.8 liter Boxster S conversion will yield 365hp and has the same reliability and maintenance intervals as a RUF 3800S and 997 Carrera. Please call for pricing." |
I read the Excellence article today. I agree with you, they really did not tell us much.
I think the RUF conversion is about $40,000. |
I love the Box but not $90K worth.
 |
this sounds WAH!, can you copy the page and post it ?or would this be in copyright breach?
|
I don't have a document scanner. You can read about it more on the RUF website.
 |
The web site is www.rufautocentre.com

thanks, will have a look, sounds nice if maybe a little pricey, don't know if someone does RUF in UK will check it too
|
Not really that pricey considering a Carrera S is in the same price range and the 3.8L 987 would outperform it ummmm...everywhere. I can see the look on the Carrera owners face now ;)

Had to renew my car insurance today and GEICO said they wouldn't insure a Porsche if it was the ROOF version.
I said "Roof, what Roof? They said you know ROOF, spelled R-U-F. |

Sounds like GEICO has some smart underwriters.

Interesting.... a convesion that, in effect, yields about 85 hp over my '05 S for approximately the same cost as a left over regular strength '05 Box. Looking at it that way, I'm tempted to buy a red one for daily driving while keeping the midnight blue S for the weekends! |

I have a friend (25 years old at the time) who had a hell of a time getting Geico to insure his SLK32 AMG Mercedes, no problems if it had been a SLK320 or SLK230, but they got scared by the AMG. Not too surprised to hear that about RUF. |
Underwriters
With the pasting they took this year with hurricanes and the likes I am not surprise that they have opted not to insure the RUF. I would think that the demographics for a RUF have to up there with plenty of money, lots of assets in short well heeled. Also the cost of the RUF for the performance gains is quite one sided. At 40K to 50K USD for an additional 10mph and 1/2 second quicker do the math. I have a 2003 S and it is plenty fast. Actually the top speed is faster than the Cessna I used to fly. Top speed (160plus) which is faster than the never exceed speed on a C-150.
I learned in my business that insurance people are very nice and courteous when you are paying their bills but that they show their true colors when they have to pay out a claim and that they are always looking for an angle to charge you more. |
I read that article in last month's excellence and the RUF Spyder had a BIG power increase, well over 300 HP. Actualyy its a Supercharged 3.8 with 420 HP
And the car looks nothing like the standard Boxster. Particularly the interior treatment. Hard to justify spending six figures on a sub 500 HP car but that's not the Boxsters/CaymanS purpose. Take the Viper and C5 to the dragstrip for 1/4 mile runs. These mid engine cars are made for driving left and right. p.s. my buddy has a CaymanS on order! |
As I always say, the C5 handles turns just fine thank you. In fact, I had a zo6 in inventory one time that would hammer any 911 I have driven.
That is a seriously fast car. |
I dunno if I could bring myself to drive a performance car with leaf springs.
|
Leaf springs seem to work just fine on the C6R at the AMLS series.
 |
Hi,
People in the know realize that it's time to stop Bashing the Corvette. Granted, it took Chevy 50 years to get it right, but in the end, they did get it right! The C6, and especially the Z06, are World Class. Take off your SNOB Hat and come into the light!... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
shhhh.....your not supposed to tell everyone the c5 won at LeMans.
if you gave me the choice of a 911 or C5 for the track I would take the C5. Now if you told me I had to drive home in it, I'd take the 911 :D well at least the interiors aren't still stuck in the 80's, but still wide of the mark. p.s. in the Caymans galore thread, the Porsche dealers who autocrossed the Caymans vs. (cars supplied by Porsche) the 05 vette said it had visible chasis flex, (the m3 had ****************ty brakes, the SLK was useless what else is new). |
