fav brand of low temp stat?

Going to order a low temp stat to install when I do the pulley. Any fav brands?

I just installed the Wahler low temp thermostat from Pelican Parts - $70. It comes with a nice metal gasket. No leaks. Works fine.

The car runs at the same temperature as when I had the stock thermostat installed. It does seem to ease up to temp a little more slowly. I don't think it's worth it.

I installed the Wahler too and it's been all good.

I bought the Wahler from Pelican also. Easy install. I didn't notice hardly any change in operating temps but at 120,000 miles it was time for to replace anyway.

+1 for Wahler. Also a good time to do the engine mount and WP, while you're there!

Buy both from Flat 6 Innovations.

Flat 6 no longer sells parts unless your car is in their shop.

Oh, did not realize this. I saw them on his web site, and just assumed. Then I'd say go L&N.

I'm only referring to the many, many little fixes a guy can do to these cars "while you're in there". It almost applies to driving the car. Nothing personal meant towards you, I am sure that is good advise.

Homeboy981 04-18-2013 12:24 PM

I am sorry because I am at a loss never having seen the show. I was probably out working on my car or making my 2nd million.

I'm sure the reference was funny, tho. Someone got it. ;)

Overdrive 04-18-2013 02:03 PM

Pretty sure no ill will was meant there, at least that's not how I saw the joke. To be fair, you do need to be at least somewhat familiar with the show and character to get the humor.

I found nothing wrong with your advice, makes sense to me because that was my exact train of thought, only my order was "need to do motor mount, therefore do WP and T-Stat because I'll already be there, and heck since I need to change the coolant anyway...". And truth be told, I was thinking that not an hour before coming into this thread today.

Homeboy981 04-19-2013 03:59 AM

I started with a few projects like this, and did other upgrades while I was there…before I knew it I had the car of my dreams! Since we are being truthful…. I was just thinking of recording that show before this came up, now I have to see it. :D

Not to continue the off-topic too much, but you'll likely get a kick out of this show even if you're not at all like any of the characters. But if you're in any way the least bit of a geek, or know or are related to anyone that is, you'll appreciate it that much more.

My wife is a PhD research professor at the U of U. She is a leading researcher in the field of recreating ancient diets in animal & human remains using stable isotope chemistry. She is totally engrossed by that show! It's really everything she does with post-grads and the whole college setting.
