brake dust augh!

Has anyone found a low-dust pad that performs as well as the OEM (for heavy steet use). I love the bite of the stock pads but my wheels need daily cleaning in order to maintain their GLOW!:barf:

Use a ceramic brake pad. There are a lot of good ones out there and all are a huge improvement over the stock pads in terms of dust.

samrwalt 04-11-2013 10:05 PM

any other methods to keep brake dust low? just changed my pads and get tired of the dust also... my wheels are white so that doesnt help much

dave4tide 04-12-2013 02:46 AM

I installed Akebono ceramic pads a month ago. No more dust.

Use Armor All Wheel Protectant. HUGE reduction in dirt and brake dust.

i tossed a set of cheapo mintex pads from pelican on the car and a lot less dust than oem.

woodsman 04-12-2013 10:52 AM

maybe I ll try some of the mintex, as I swore by them in the 80 s and 90 s and I m also going to wax my wheels!
thanks.

any other recommendations before I buy...

Paint your wheels black to match the dust!
:)

WhipE350 04-19-2013 07:13 PM

Trust me on this one, go Akebono. If you need help finding them let me know. I've had them on 3 cars including two Boxsters and you will love them. I sold my 987 and have the rears still and plan on putting them on my 981, the rear disks haven't changed in over a decade. Once they make them for the front I'll be switching. I think I have a thread with pics showing how good they are. Ya folks said there is dust there you just can't see it, well I challenge that but even so, all I know is you won't need to wash them much at all.

Oh ya, i agree with above you could paint them black :)

been running the Akebono ceramics for 3 years now. *very* minimal dust.

Friction please!

well I tried ordering some Mintex pads on Saturday but pelican was out of stock--now I m wondering about akebono and their overall performance compared to OEM????? Friction... I must have great friction... but no dust...

I'll send you my front Mintex for shipping. I used them for < 1000 Miles. Nothing wrong with them. I put them on front and rear of 2000 'S' and couldn't stand the dust and hot flakes ruining my finish on wheels. I left the rear on because it wasn't too bad. When I got my 987 (now sold) I put Akebone on front and rear.

Here is where I bought them:

Whip350 thanks for sharing your experiences. Your link didn't work for me but I've purchased some Akebone pads elsewhere.

The link was actually to the Mintex pads I have and where I got them. I guess the forum now hides the domain.

Best source? Checked their website and no rear pads listed. Not a easy website but I'm not a computer guy.

Thanks.

I put EBC Redstuff on the front of the 987 after reading so many positive reviews on here
http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/25467-brake-pad-replacement.html

Now the front wheels get about as dirty as the rear OEM which is perfect, at least the wheels always match now :D ;)

TIMCO , I found the akebono's at tire rack ($85, and 1L of ATE SUPERBLUE @ $15) but i'm new to all of this as well- it takes so long to find the lowest price out there. I'll pass on my greatest discovery ever and that's SUNSET PORSCHE in Oregon . They sell for about 55% of what my local dealer here in BC Canada does. I mean that's the difference between being able to own a Porsche and not, for me !!!
