Drove 997

Went to Miami over the Thanksgiving Holiday and my nephew let me drive his new triple black 997. Differences with my Boxster:
1/ Power - oodles more.
2/ Clutch - sweet and soft.
3/ Shifter like butter. Nice short throws and sharp. Compare to mine knotchy gear box sometimes.
Have not driven the 987 I wonder how the clutch and shifts are in comparison to 2003 S 986 & the 997 Carrera ?

i have and it is way smoother than my S, dying to try the cayman!

Any clutch or gearbox or shifter diffrence between 986 Ss ?

as i said much smoother and sweet gear changes, if you look around the forum you will see that me included we have very stiff gear change specially 2nd when cold but it gets better when the car warms up, still prefers gears for track day over tiptronic, if you just want cool road driving the tip is top!

I am glad to hear other boxster owners have difficulty with shifting when the engine and transmission are cold (50 degrees farenheit or lower).

I never let my wife or friends drive my car when it's cool outside and the engine is not up to temp... the shifter is just too tricky. And I have a brand new clutch!

The 2002 and on 996s are sweet shifing cars indeed and the extra 20 HP over the older 996s is welcome indeed.

Yes, the whole drive train is superior to the S model but for the money, it should be, no?
