No Muffler, Straight Pipes and tips..Anyone done this?
Has anyone tried this?

Uh, I doubt it... It's a Porsche not an F150. I would be interested to hear what it sounds like if you do it though. :D

F150
F150???
Check out Fabspeed's clip of the non muffled 2004 GT3....it doesn't get any more Pure Porschefile than that. Sounds just so awesome. KRZ |
You should check out the sound on the 997S with the muffler bypass pipes. Sounds even sweeter. They make the bypass pipes for the 2nd cat for the 986, but seems like no one in this forum have tried it.

I'm guessing that you'd lose some low end power because you need backpressure for low end torque.

Hey Jeph, yeah I love this forum. A lot of good threads. A lot incomplete. But mainly its because I'm up in the Northeast, the roads are icy and sloppy with snow. Although it is supposed to warm up this week! And its busy season for me so I'm in the office a lot on wknds and nights. Cabin fever.

2000 S with no muffler. Very loud when you step on it and resonance is horrible at 2000 to 2700 rpm. If all I did was drive it once in a while around town and at the track, I'd keep it this way. Using it for a commute car and doing any long distance freeway driving is rapidly becoming impossible to live with.

Personally, I find cars (of any type) with the overly loud tailpipe action to be obnoxious. A porsche is a racer, but it is also classy car, not a hoopty. All that look a me noise is for children that have no respect for their neighbors.

First off, it is illegal and likely to get you a nasty ticket in most parts.
Moreover, if it was my neighbor's car, I woud have him arrested. Otherwise, I am sure it is fine! :p |

With the 4 cats, the noise isn't too loud at idle and with light throttle. It's only when you step on it or drone along at 2300-2700 rpm that the dBA's go way up. CW |
I guarantee you if you drive a Box with no muffler in CA you will be ticketed and your car will be inpounded. I can lead you to the CHP guys who will be happy to perform this task.

The fact that it hasn't happened to you yet simply proves you are lucky, not correct in your assessment. |
"The catalytic converter plays a major role in the emissions reduction of a motor vehicle. The vehicle manufacturer has matched a specific catalytic converter to the vehicle to minimize emissions output. Both CARB and the EPA do not allow the replacement of a catalytic converter with non-exempt "high flow" performance replacement unit. In fact, it is technically not legal to even replace a converter unless it has been proven by technician to have failed, and then it can only be replaced with an exempt OEM equivalent unit."

Hi,
I agree with Brucelee 100% on this. These are afterall Street Cars - don't try to make it everything. Get a dedicated Track Car and have at it. If you can't afford this, then too bad, leave the Cats in place. The Greens are already trying to zero-in on Enthusiasts as creating more pollution and wasting Dino Juice - we don't need people like you giving them more ammunition... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

You are dead right on this one Jim! |
Yeah and just screaming give me a ticket. Of course if they would help us all out and just start ticketing those Honda's and Neon's with exhausts so loud it puts a Harley to shame we would all be better off.

I am fine about it. They are a menace, nothing more! |
