Drivetrain frozen and snaps free every morning

This week my 986 has had a loud pop from the back end. You can feel the car try to move an then "pop" something lets go. It's not loud but concerning. It's been wet and salty here lately is just the pads locking to the rotors or something more serious?

Probably brake pads. Try not using the emergency brake when you stop for the night.

+1 on the emergency brake. Mine did this a couple of times when it was real humid here. It freaked me out the first time until I realized it was my e-brake sticking a little.

I try to never use the e-brake. Only use it to get the top up and down, and occasionaly when I'm driving I'll drag it a little bit just to knock off the rust that I am sure is building up in it.

Brake pads most likely. mine does it after sitting over nite after driving in the rain or washing. Try moving in reverse a few inches then forward.

Yeah, I've learned with my Toyota PU to leave it in gear instead of using the parking brake in freezing weather.

Also inspect your half shaft boots. Water getting in?

I thought it's always the brake pads sticking...
