New CPO '01 Boxster - Litronic Lights Question
 

I'm really enjoying this website, I just purchased a CPO '01 Boxster, are the Litronic Lights the only lighting options for the Boxster? Are there any less expensive options such as xenon? If so, How difficult is it to change the headlights to xenon headlights? Meaning how difficult is it to remove the current headlights and replace them, also does anyone have an idea of what xenon headlights are costing if they are even an option?

The Litronic Lights are Xenon. This is Porsche part number 000-044-900-41.

Is there a less expensive option? $1500+ wow!!! LOL

Have you tried a salvage yard?

There are a set on E-Bay for $1,300. Still a lot. Blinkwatt has a good suggestion too!

Thanks for the suggestions, The salvage yard won't work, I'm in New Orleans, every car in the salvage yard were under many feet of water!!!

MMmmm...Houston we have a problem:

Xenon gas is used in HID lights such as the Litronics.

Xenon gas is also used to market bulbs with a similar look (Kelvin rating) that you can purchase at a high performance auto accessory store (Super Autobacs, Stanton CA).

What your looking for is a Kelvin rating similar to HID lighting (Litronics) from a bulb which is entirely possible, in fact I had some that gave me the same HID look as Litronics.

Here's the problem: With bulbs that have a high Kelvin rating, they burn too hot for the casing and will cause burn spots and begin to melt the housing over time, such as mine did. I ended up forking over the $1099 from Brandywine Porsche in PA and wasting about $100 on the bulbs that burnt my lenses.

Thanks for the warning on the aftermarket lights, I guess that makes anything other than the Litronic lights a no go!!! LOL. I guess I'll have to wait for next christmas for the Litronic lights, The car is this years christmas present!!!!!!! Happy Motoring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
