Replacing the shift knob on a '97 Boxster

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to replace the shifter knob on my '97 Boxster. Thanks for your help.

If I recall correctly, I think you need to remove the "bat wing" center console cover using a flat pry tool such as a flat head screw driver (it just pops out). Then, use the same tool to gently lift around the base of the shifter boot where it meets the center console. Lift up and back to loosen the shift boot from the clips that hold it in place. Put the car in 2nd gear, and pull upward on the shift knob. It should just slip out (it's a friction fitted shift knob for that year I think). It may take some degree of force to pull the knob off. Mine just slipped off with a firm grip and tug.

If I missed a step or something of great importance, I apologize. I just fitted a new shift knob and boot on my 98, so I think it should be the same for your car.
