2000 Boxster Glass Roof?
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post. I have a question about my 2000 Boxster roof and I thought this would be a good place to ask! I need to replace the roof on my 2000 Boxster due to the plastic window being torn. I have checked on the Internet and see that several sites offering replacement roofs with glass instead of plastic. The glass window is much smaller but I would prefer it to the plastic. I live in Las Vegas and the heat is brutal on cars. All the sites tell me it will work but I would like some feedback from someone who has tried this. Has anyone tried to put on a roof with a glass window on a 2000 Boxster? Thanks! Suzanne P.S. I will be using my orginal roof frame. |
Hi,
Welcome to 986forum.com There have been quite a few discussions out there about this: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4503& http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/3873-installing-new-top-glass-window.html http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/3604-new-glass-window-top.html This one has some good tips for it you do the install yourself: [http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/2566-glass-window-top-97-02-boxsters-3.html The GAHH/Cabrioworld one had a few early on that had issues with the glass separating from the top, but that's been fixed (from what I can tell). The Nachos Upholstery/Convertibletopsonline.com recently came out and is a bit cheaper. I quoted out total cost top + installation at a few shops. The prices ranged from about $1200-$1500. I'm strongly considering getting one myself. From what I have read about others that have it, they all like it. Good Luck, Larez2 |
Thanks. I have been really looking at the ones at Cabrioworld. I have a black Boxster with a black roof. I am thinking about getting dark tan instead of black. My next step is to find a local shop that can install it. The place my Porsche shop recommended has never done an installation with glass.
At least it doesn't rain here a lot so I have time to decide! Thanks again. Suzanne |
I'll definately check out the link to install ourselves. If it doesn't look too intense, we might try that too.
Thanks again! Suzanne |
If the window is the only part that is damaged, you can have a new window sewn in for about $300-$400. I'm going to have a charcoal tinted window sewn into mine when the window decides to crack.
The only thing I have seen complaints about with the glass window is the size. It's pretty small in order to fit when folded. Just something to consider when you look around. |
