Car not starting

Hi everyone. Just wondering if you guys might have any ideas to why my car isn't starting....Car was running fine. Gas light was on and i went to go pump gas. Weather was about 45 degrees and pouring rain (not sure if that makes a difference) After pumping gas I drove around for another 20 minutes. Turned off the car to go into the store and came out and the car would not start. Definitely not the battery. Sounds like the car wants to crank over but it just won't fire up. Couple of times it seems like the car is about to start up and then it just takes. If anyone has any idea on where i could start or on what the issue could be that would be greatly appreciated. THANKS :)

Fuel pump or the fuel pump relay would be my first guess.
Listen at the gas filler with the cap off while someone turns on the ignition. Do not start the car. You should hear a whirring sound coming from the gas tank when the key is turned to ignition on.
Running the gas tank down to empty can cause the fuel pump to overheat. The gasoline surrounding the pump helps keep it cool.

Same problem with my car....... fuel pump. Feel better that it is behind me rather than in the future.

How many miles were on the car when the FP went out?

Thinking I may have to add it to the list soon.

A function of running the car when the fuel is low so there is no cooling of the pump and it burns out. The gas in the tank actually absorbs the heat on some models.
