My wife and I are new to Boxsters, having just purchased a 1999 Boxster, but are long time Porsche owners. We also have a 1971 911, but after only a week with the Boxster WE LOVE IT! The only problem we have that we hope someone here can help with is the door locks will not lock. It has the alarm & remote entry and every time we try to lock it with the remote or key it cycles right back to unlock after about 2 seconds. The owners manual states to lock in am emergency when the central locking system fails to lock 3 times rapidly with the key, that failed, I removed the battery from the key & tried to lock, incase the key had a problem & was only sending an unlock signal, no luck. I than removed the central locking button the dash to see if it was stuck on unlock. No lock. I removed the fuse & was able to lock the drivers door with the key. Put the fuse back in and it still will not lock. Will the Durametric program help with this or has anyone else had this concern.
Porsche. There is no substitute.

I had this last year. One of the door lock mechanisms (the electronic part in the door that receives the latch) has crapped out on you. When they die, the system unlocks the vehicle.

I can't remember how I determined it was my passenger side, but after I replaced it, no more problems. You will need a triple star screwdriver set to remove the bolts in the end of the door that holds this part in place after you get the door panel off.

When you try to lock the door, do you hear two quick horn beeps? This happens when there is a problem with the central locking system.

I'm speculating that a Durametric might help. It should tell you if the central locking system is throwing codes that might narrow down the problem. It may allow you to activate pieces of the central locking system to see what part might be causing the problem. I'm going to test this when my cable arrives next week.

I had a similar problem - not with the key, but with the locking switch on the central console. The LED would come on without me touching it. When I pushed to rocker to turn the LED off, I would get two quick attempts to unlock the doors even though I never locked it in the first place. Once the LED was on, the remote key acted crazy. The independent's code reader said there was a central locking synchronization problem although the specific problem wasn't diagnosed.

It looks like my passenger side door latch was faulty. I found it was the culprit when I could throw the system into its crazy behavior by opening the passenger door handle. Occasionally, the window would go back up if I released the handle or do other weird things

Thank you every one!! My thoughts were to check the door locks next, thanks to all you good folks I am goimg to do that as soon as I can get the key away from my wife! I will let everyone know what the outcome is.

I just replaced my driver's side door locking mechanism Saturday. I did not have the same issue you are having but it did fix my problem (widow drop when door is open).

Hi Tom, Speed yellow Boxster S.....I had the very same problem last year. I was told by a mechanic that it could possibly be the door latch mechanism which is situated inside the door, I ordered the passenger one and fitted it as I reckoned it was this one at fault. once I put it all back together and pressed the fob my heart sunk, problem was still there!, anyway back on to dealership and ordered the drivers side, fitted it and bingo!!!, problem solved:))), my consolation was that I'd renewed both latches for a fraction of the cost of having my nearest dealership, (which is 110 miles from my home) do it, I've had my Boxster five years now and this is the only problem I've had, it's a superb car that's a joy to drive and a complete head turner.
