which sealant to use on the oil pan cover?
 

Sorry but cannot find which sealant is the recommended for the oil pan cover.

I will be changing the oil and wanted to check the inside of the oil pan (4 curiosity and to check for debris), my engine has 60k

I remember reading that you can use a motorcycle engine case sealer, called Yamabond.. (?) or something like that..

What do you recommend?

And use the Loctite 5900 sparingly; excess sealant is usually found clogging the oil pickup.....

You can use any generic oil gasket sealer out there. I've picked up permatex ultra black at walmart when I didn't want to buy online. It has worked flawlessly.

+1 on the Loctite, I use their grey engine sealnt on my Ducati race bike and it keeps her leak free!

Any sealant will work, I use the Permatex Red. The secret is to use as little as possible. The spec calls for a 1.5mm bead. That is very little. Less is more. If you goober it, the sealant can get into the oil and clog the pickup tube.

Gilles, the best is 3 Bond 1209 or Drei Bond by Porsche. Circle Porsche in Long Beach stocks this. $18. I believe YamaBond is simular or identical.
Loctite 5900 is good, but hard to remove the part later & clean off.
Permatex Ultra Grey is good & available at most auto parts stores $7.00, since the oil sump plate is easy to seal I recommend this.

Loctite 5900. Use a thin strip at the mid to outer edge of the pan. Most of it will squeeze out. Mine is sealed up good.

I use Permatex copper.

Locally, my choices are somewhat limited. Can't find anyone nearby with Loctite 5900 or I would go with that.

I've narrowed down the choices to these which I can get locally at PA, Can-ti or Wallyworld:

1) Permatex ultra copper rtv hi temp gasket maker
2) Permatex red hi temp rtv adhesive sealant
3) Permatex ultra black rtv gasket maker

4) I also found a new tube of Permatex anaerobic gasket maker in my cavernous cupboards.

Some opinions on the best choice out of these would certainly be appreciated!

Have you seen the size of the little packet of Permatex you get with the IMS Guardian? It's literally the same as a squeeze pack of ketchup you get at a fast food joint. I'm wondering if there's really enough there to go all the way around the pan!!
