H & R spring kit installation

I called two shops about installing the H & R spring kit on my 99 boxster. Both shops quoted me $800 for installation, why is it so damn much money?

I have been told that to change the shocks on our cars is not hard. I have done them on a 928 and the Porsche mechanic said that if I could do them on a 928 that the Boxster was a lot easier. He also, said you do not even need a spring compresor toool, as the springs are a low profile. Just need a freind to squeze a couple of coils together and inch or so and put the bolt back on.
I have not changed my shocks yet.
Thinking on it and what springs and shocks combo would be good.
Are H&R springs a good match with the stock shocks?

H & R springs install

I got all excited when I came across a used set of H&R springs for $150. Checked several shops and the cheapest to install here in Vancouver was $468 plus $110 for alignment. So all together will be about $600 labour plus $150 for the springs.

I don't know if it's worth it.

Anyone have the springs and is it worth it? Does the car handle any better or is it just for the lowered look?

I had H&R springs installed om my 987 for $375 by a local independant... straight forward job, no problems. I purchached them online for $375 also... I am happy with the results...

Did you also have to do an alignment? Also, have you taken it out on the track or autocross? If so, how does it feel?

Got H&R's installed on my Boxster....................

$600 CAD sounds about right for springs $400 and then alignment $120 - $200. It def. handles much better. Lower centre of gravity. But also the ride is still Boxster nice and not bone jarring. I threw on a set of 18" Tech Art Rims. Labour to install the springs is what the cost is. But I pay the bucks for the right mechanic to do it and not just anyone. Also look for a shop that has a laser alignment unit. As one shop with a tradition alignment unit could not do the alignment as the car was too low. A shop that has such a unit could prob. do your spring install too.
