engine swap
Is it possible to swap out a 2.5L from a 97 986 and replace it with a 2.7L from a 2001 986? Will the immobilizer need to be replaced? Any other technical issues? Do I need to convert the car to egas or can I just use the throttle cable?

I'm no expert on this, but I've researched it.
It's best to swap a 97 2.5 with a 3.4 out of a 97-99 911. Egas conversions are tough. Plus, you get far more power than the tiny bump from 2.5 to 2.7... |

Thanks. I have an extra 2.7L and trans on hand. Maybe I can find a 3.4 to swap for.

I'm no sexpert but I believe if you find a 3.4 you can use the 2.7 trans with it.

All you need to do to put the 2.7L engine in the early car is swap the engine harness and put the center throttle body T with throttle body from the 2.5 on the 2.7 intake. I just did this to my dads car. We built a 2.9 out of a 2.7 and put it in his 99 Boxster.
