Bracket that tension rope snaps onto is loose and rattles
 

When riding on some of the immaculate NC roads today with the top up, I kept hearing a rattle behind the passenger seat, in the area inside the convertible top. So I stopped and pulled off the tension rope and reinstalled. I noticed the bracket that the rope snaps to is loose, but maybe it's designed that way? I could move it quite a bit with my hand when the cable was off, producing the rattle that I was hearing.


I get back in and drive some more, and then the one behind the driver's seat starts rattling.

I have found the bracket in the Porsche parts catalog. It's position #19, and part #986 561 917 00, and is called a "Treaded Plate."

I was wondering if this plate can be tightened down so it won't rattle when on a bumpy road?

On my car the plates are firm on bothe sides.

I put a socket on top on the bolt on the top of the bracket, but apparently that only tightens the cable.
I think it raises or lowers the round head that the cable snaps onto.
Anyway, I can take my fingers and rattle the bracket around in the holder, which is what's making the noise.

Anyone know how I can stop the bracket from moving around in the holder?

i think you are right.
did you removed the foam sheet that covers the plate, and checked how it is mounted?
when i checked mine, i just wiggled it to see if there is any "loosens".
post a pic if you want, and ill compare it to my car.

Yes, I pulled back the foam, and it wiggles in the socket when the top is partially down, and in the service position.
This afternoon, I checked it again, and I had been turning the bolt on top of the plate the wrong direction, thereby running the ball upwards, which made the cable looser. Seems the plate needs to have play in it, but if cable is tighter, the rattle may stop.
So, I worked on it again, and turned the bolt counter clockwise, and watched the plate with the ball drop down, which is what I needed.
I snapped the tension cable back on, closed the top, and now it seems the cable is tighter, and hopefully will not make the rattle.
I hope I didn't tighten it too much, but seems there's still a little wiggle in the cable.

looked again at my car, and it looks like the aluminum plate, is held in place by two metal "ears" (sorry for the bad pic)

see if you can bend them inward somehow, to put more pressure on the plate.
