Electrical - Can someone save me some time?
I have a short somewhere. Defroster light lights up (sometimes) when I put the top down or roll the windows up or down. Also, when driving (sometimes, of course) after I shut the car off, the car locks. It's semi-obvious I have a bad ground somewhere. Before I start ripping trim pieces off and causing more problems than I started with I have some questions. (Driver side under the seat is and has been dry everytime I am looking for change)
1. Just in case there is an easy answer, is there somewhere specific I should look at that has been a common area for these type problems? 2. Where might I find an electrical diagram? 3. Any other helpful ideas would be appreciated. |
The Bentley manual has pretty good electrical diagrams. Circuit diagrams are a bit tedious to follow but these seem pretty complete. Fortunately I have not had to use mine for wiring, but it has been very helpful for other repair issues.

Strange electrical problems are typically from a failed ignition switch. Its a cheap part, but a bit of a pain to replace.

a capacitive discharge wouldn't hurt either...

Now that sounds interesting to me. The ignition switch was replaced by the previous owner so I'm saving that as the last option. What is a capacitive discharge? It sounds more complicated than hanging a ground strip to drag the ground when I'm driving.
