On Board Computer Query

Hi All,
I have a query ref my OBC. ....
It has one fitted (Column Stalk and option code present on bonnet sticker).
The stalk does not appear to do anything, the displays show the following:
LEFT speedo- display shows Mileage/trip
CENTRE tacho- display shows Speed
RIGHT- temp/fuel - display shows Oil level/Clock

The central tacho display is larger so there are additional rows for more data, you can see the fuel icon etc for range.

Are there any common faults with the stalk or specific things to check before I deconstruct the plastic cowling behind the steering wheel?

It would be great to see if I can get it working as the information would be useful.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Bump - Anyone able to assist. Model is 98 Boxster 2.5. The OBC is factory fitted too.

Cheers

Have you tried this link?
Boxster On Board Computer Activation

Hi,
Thanks but its already installed as a factory option inc stalk. The issue is I can't get it working or even displaying outside temp. I want to fix the OE part rather than trying an aftermarket route.

How do you know it is activated? Has some diagnostic you have run shown you it is activated? Was any replacement work done on the car that would lead to the options originally installed on the car being replaced with the default set?

Always post model year (though sometimes that will fool us over here as sometimes your model years are different from ours). Speedo in the middle for our US cars meant '97-'99.

I know you said it is a factory installed option, but before I took it apart I would definitely hook up a Durametric to it just to make sure it is actually enabled.

Like Mike said,
My understanding is that if the Outside Temperature is being displayed then the OBC has already been activated.
The On-Board Computer is an option that gives you these values:
Temperature, Distance To Empty, Avg. MPH, and Avg. MPG.
To control it, an extra stalk is added to the steering column.

Did you add the column stalk or was it equipped when you purchased the car?
Every OBC hack document I read stated that the dealer has to enable OBC prior.

I was also told that it is enabled when the sport/touring option is enabled.
(I can't validate that, maybe some else can chime in)

My 2001 Boxster S in addition to those items listed above also has an adjustable "Max Speed" Setting, that emits a beep when you exceed that speed,

Outside Temp, (Under tach guage readout)

and also a "Speed" at the lower end (Opposite to Max Speed?) that I have no clue what it means. Perhaps it beeps if you go lower than that speed?

I suspect it might have something to do with the cruise control setting, which I also have.

I think I will have to get it checked to see if its enabled. The clocks have been out at some point as the temp/fuel guage has been replaced - Would disconnecting the clocks disable the OBC as its through the clock set?
