Weird noise only on cold startup

There is a weird noise coming from my 2000 5 speed 2.7. It is in the back, but isn't everything in the back? Is not a squeal or a thump. It's not a grind or a scraping sound. I can't even tell if it is mechanical or pneumatic. I back slowly out of the garage and into the street. When I begin to pull away and let the clutch out for the first time there is a noise like a "whoot" or a "tooot". Very short and only one time. Only when it is dead cold. Doesn't do it again until the next morning. Almost sounds like a belt, but not that high pitched. Could be a throwout bearing (old school, my Boxster may not even have a TO bearing) Perhaps it is something with the air/oil separator. Something in the tranny? I'm at a loss. It is the beginning of an IMS failure? I am reading everything but so far I have found nothing. I have only had the car for a month and it is my first Porsche:confused: so I'm not familiar enough yet to what is normal. Thanks for any help.

I would start with making sure all the spark plugs are tight. This may seem weird but i have seen a ton of threads about this kind of noise. I'd say more than half of the the reasons for the noise is a loose plug. i had the same problem earlier this year. So i would try this first. If you have a jack and some hand tools you could check the plugs for free. Free is good.
