986 wheels on a 987
I've posted this on Pete's board and haven't seen any definative responses.
Has anyone tried mounting 17 or 18" 986 wheels on a 987? I've an extra set of the 17" boxster style wheels that I have been using for auto-x and would like to use them on our ordered 987. thanks for any help. |

Also make sure the stud goes in the same number of turns with the new wheel so it's strong enough to hold the new wheel. |
Got a definative ruling on this from my dealer..
they pulled the old wheels off my dearly departed '99' with the 17" boxster style wheels, mounted them on a 987 and he said they fit fine with no clearance issues. the tires were 225/45/17 (f) and 255/4017 (R).

I'd actually like to go the other way and get those 987 18s on my 986...

18"'s would be great..
except your tire choices for auto-x or track are limited and very expensive. The R compound tire choices --even in 17"-- are few are far between in something close to a correct OD. I'll probably have to make do with a 245/45/17 tire on the rear in a Victoracer simply because there is nothing close to the 26.3 OD that will fit on a 8.5 x17" rim.
