Subaru turbo kit in 99 boxster?

i just bout a 99 porsche boxster i bought it with the intentions of putting alot of money into it to get where i want to be with the car but i have had alot of tuners telling me i can buy a turbo kit intended for a subaru wrx and it will work for my car any advice?

The term "tuners" is usually loosely applied. I consider them "bolt-on'ers" as they really don't *tune* anything. ;)

Having said that, take a look at this "Boxter". (what the OP calls it)

Now THAT's putting a lot of money into it.

Ignore the tuners. If you really want hp, drop in a 3.4L. If you want to scatter parts on the highway with connecting rods sticking out of awkward places, go with the turbo. :)

Where in Virgina are you? I'm in Charlottesville, but I work in Richmond. I'd be happy to talk modifications and let you have a look at my car.

I have to agree with topless. I looked at supercharging/turboing my 2.7, and the HP numbers barely got to 300.

I installed a 3.4, and I always have 300hp. No worrying heat soak, skyrocketing oil temps, a/f,boost, and all sorts of temp gauges installed half assed in my interior; that are associated with a turbo conversion.

Subaru turbos are top mounted, by the way...so it would be a poor choice.

I know someone that tried to build a Turbo kit for these -- in doing so it was "mis-tuned"
and cracked the rings and landings on the pistons.

A 3.4 drop in is supposed to be pretty easy to do and like a previous poster said you have
300Hp all day.

Or if you really want to have fun -- put the $$ into an LS1 swap.

I'd do a Raby 3.8.

Off topic question:
Assuming you had the three front radiators, where would the intercooler go?

Bigsmoothlee 09-04-2012 04:31 AM

Yea, I read that thread a few months ago. The car was well done, and subaru engines are great.

But no subaru turbo kit is compatible with a boxster.

That being said, I would also say that getting the plumbing done for a custom boxster turbo kit would be unusually easy, but the pain in the ass would be mounting the intercooler and tuning the DME...
