Ignition switch/Steering lock question

Hey,

I think my Boxsterīs ignition switch is broken. Itīs very tough to turn to key and difficult to put the key in to ignition switch. And when i take the key, steering lock wonīt lock. If i change mechanical and electrical parts, can i still use my old key??? Or is it possible to clean parts and get it work?

Thx for advises.

Just change the electrical part. Common problem with ignition switch.

just did mine last week -- you will need to cut down a small screw driver (no longer than 3 inches on a small blade screwdriver) to access the 2 set screws -- hardest part of the job ...make sure you get the right part -- there is an "A" and "B" version -- original 986 was a black "4A0 905 849B" later replaced with a white "4B0 905 849B" version -- they are not interchangeable.

I know because I bought the wrong one the first time --- I still have it by the way if you need the black "4A0 905 849B"

Problem solved and parts changed. Now itīs working perfectly. The part cost 20 euros and took like 4 hours to open screws!!!
