As far as I can tell I don't have any shimmy in the wheel while breaking on even road. Colorado has a ton of really crappy pavement, I try to do my observations on nice patches :) Getting balanced tomorrow so hopefully my wheel shake will go away although I think I might need alignment too.

I actually heard a *clunk* on the highway while driving yesterday and thought I kicked up a rock under my passenger tire, I think it might have been son existing weights on the tire because my steering shake is not nearly as bad as it was lol.

OK sounds like the brakes are OK. Alignment has nothing to do with steering wheel shimmy. I'm betting on a bent wheel, tell them to check for a bent wheel.

pffft ! petrol head girls !!! :p

get yourself a box of disposable nitrile gloves (i hate dirt under my fingernails)

welcome to the group and welcome to porsche world :)

just as an aside new pads take a while to bed in, depending on how grooved the rotor face is

She doesn't need gloves Bruce, she is a woman and she has a Boxster, what other bargaining tools would she need for a simple brake job? I don't know about the UK but over here if a woman stands near a puddle guys will line up to toss their jackets in for safe crossing.

PS Any tire shop of talent will find a bent wheel on the spin balancer

Welcome to the forum SP!

Go ahead and get those fingernails dirty! Real men are more impressed by a competent girl wrenching on her own Porsche.

Watch you don't get a run in your nylons though. And get some steel-toed pumps. We don't want any accidents! :D

Haha I love that picture. I do my own car work if I have to. I'm better at sweet talking ;) I'm handy with a wrench, I also know more about car stuff than most of the guys in the office but there is always someone smarter than you. And boys do like to talk about cars with a girl when they find out I know what I am talking about.

I hate changing my oil but I don't mind getting into the guts and taking car of stuff, just wish I has a garage to work in. I still have an rx7 that is in parts under a car cover at my old apartment complex because I don't have the time to drop the new motor in.

PS: Love you guys already, thanks for inviting me to your group, some places are all guys all the time and don't like girls getting in the club ;) So yeah, thanks

A cool woman who enjoys mechanical knowledge, has a Porsche and seems cool, question becomes who isn't?

shadowprincess25 08-19-2012 04:12 PM

I love you guys :)

Oh btw, getting my wheels balanced fixed my shake. Got up to about 100 and didn't realize is as it wasn't shaking like it did a few days ago. 55$ well spent I say!

Excellent news! I am always amazed at how smooth and solid these cars are at high speed. Seriously fun:D
