What tools to buy?

My birthday is right around the corner and wife is looking for something to buy me. Just sold my Miata and bought this Boxster. First thing I'm noticing is I have non of the tools neccesary to work on this car. Anyone have suggestions on what starter or most common tools needed to work on this car are? I know I need some torx bits. Any help is appreciated. I figure I might as well get something I want and need other than cloths or something like that. -Tom

Tools

Look through the instructions on how to do maintenance things on a Boxster. Pick out the ones you are liable to do. Most have lists of tools.

I'd start with Durametric S/W for a laptop or an OBDII code reader (Actron).

Some maintenance DIY guides are here

TORX wrenches /drivers/sockets. Seems no one uses "hexheads" anymore

OBDII reader / diagnostic tool

Bentley Manual

A valid credit card

I echo the other posts, the Bentley manual and Durametric code reader so you have a sense of what to fix and how to fix it, then get any specific tools you may need to do the job, have fun,

Ed

First thing you are going to need is a good socket set. Go to Sears and buy the bigest set you can afford. Make sure you get a 19mm socket for the wheels. And a breaker bar.
Then you are going to need is a good Jack and 4 Jack Stands.

Next figure out what projects you are going to want to do first.
If it is brakes then get a flare wrench set. And a motive brake bleader. Some clear tubing as well.

For Oil changes...a discount auto parts oil pan to keep the oil from spilling. Hex set for the drain. You can buy a large socket to take off the filter but i just use my muscles...UGH!!!Don't forget plenty of blue rags.

I don't think buying the durametric softwars is a #1 item to get. Unless your check engine light is on. Even if it is just go down to an auto parts store and borrow the code reader for 3 minutes.

How about a nice Porter Cable Polisher and pads for really taking care of your car?
That would be a nice birthday gift to yourself. www.autopia.com

Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner. Defintite must have.

This should get you going....Good Luck

A non-racheting solid bar that the socket fits on. It allows you to exert much more force than a rachet would allow.
