Transmission Compatibility
I've got a Boxster project car w/o engine or trans, and am looking at what manual transmissions might be a good swap in the car. The engine going in isn't quite decided yet, but the letter V and the number 8 are in play.
The boxster trans is too expensive for my under $5k project. I don't mind fabricating, but why make it harder. The engine will have 250-350 hp, so it can't be something whimpy. A 944 trans are fairly easy to find, and appears to have the same 6-bolt attachment for the axles shafts, that looks like a plus if it does. I may have to go with a transverse setup, so any suggestions there would be good. thanks, jack |
All the adaptor hardware for mating an LS3 to a 997 trans have been worked out. This would be a sweet match if you have the dinero. :D

but interesting, a LS3 v8 will fit in the boxster? |

Word around the forums is that Audi transmissions are compatible with boxsters. Supposedly they bolt right up, read about it a while back.

Nimble, I'm glad that helped. However, engines are notoriously expensive for the boxster. There has been an Audi conversion and a Subaru conversion, but from what I hear it is extremely tedious and time-consuming. However, for the motorsport aficionado, engine swaps are very common for the dedicated. Based on what you have to say, I'd say an Audi V8 would be your best bet, as Audi and Porsche are practically sister companies. A guy did use an engine from an A8 but it looked messy with wires and two gear selector knobs in place!
