986 ticking in first gear from 1-3k rpm
Hi,
Hope someone can diagnose this problem I've been having recently. There is a ticking coming from the rear of my boxster when i accelerate in first gear from about 1000-3000rpm the best I can liken it to is the sound of having a playing card stuck in the spokes of a bicycle rim. The sound is not present if I just rev my engine when not in gear, or if I take off from second gear. Only in first gear.. anyone have any ideas or have experienced something similar? Thanks! 1) If you roll down a hill in neutral is the sound still there?
2) There could be a chip on the 1st drive gear. 3) Check to see if there is any damage to your driveshaft rubber boots - if there's a tear and water / debris got in, the bearing(s) could be on the way out..... Of course, it could be something simple like a stone embedded in your tyre or brake disc, but if it only happens in 1st gear probably not...... |
Does the noise speed raise and fall with RPM? I'll guess noisy valve.
