Rear Alignment
 

Hello everyone... I recently purchased a 2000 Boxster with 96k miles and I noticed the rear tires has more wear in the inner side than the outer, Is this normal wear for this car? :confused: The front has newer tires so I could'nt tell their wear pattern yet. :o

Sounds like a lot of negative camber- just the way I like it!!

Looks like its out of specs. I'll have it checked when I get new pair of tires.. any inputs? :confused:

Its not out of spec. Standard alignment calls for a lot of negative camber which will cause the rears to wear on the inside. If you have directional tires, the fix is to dismount the rear tires and re-mount them on the opposite side. You can't do this if you have assymetrical tires. I just did this and it cost less than $75.

Another fix is to alter the alignment and get as much negative camber as you can in the fronts, and set the rear camber close to zero. This will take out a lot of the understeer that is designed into these cars which will make the car handle much quicker, but you won't have the cushion of understeer if you get in trouble going around corners.

It looks like you have lots of tread left. Are the tires assymetrical? Looks like they are but check to make sure. If they are just drive until they wear out.

no opinion, but here's pictures off my car.
the left is Michelin Pilot and the right is Pilot super sport. replaced tire a month ago.
tread pattern is similar to your photo.

The front tires can wear unevenly also if the alignment is off, that maybe why they were replaced prior to selling the car to you. You should replace the rear tires & have the front & rear aligned to your preference of treadwear vs cornering performance.
