HELP!!! No Brakes and Crazy Idle
 

Hello everybody!

Something super weird is happening to my 2000 Boxster S.

A few weeks ago i had to brake hard to make an u-turn and the ABS went on. Since then the brake pedal became super hard and the idle is going crazy, sometimes elevating engine rotation by itself and sometimes just rough in general.

Any ideas on what may have happened?

Get the codes, when you say the pedal got hard how low from the floor? Do the brakes work as normal? Any pulling when applied? Any rotational vibration through your foot? I doubt the idle is related to the ABS or hard feel, think that is just coincidence. Idle likely related to maf, fuel delivery, O2 sensor, plugs or the like.

Brakes are not operating properly. I need to step super hard on the brakes to make the car to stop. No pulling. No vibration. The only things i did so far was to remove the wheels and check the ABS sensors, remove the ABS fuse to see if i could isolate the problem and removed the battery cable in an attempt to "reset" everything. No changes.

When you were inspecting the sensors did you check to make sure each rotor was turning freely? Check the pad wear? Inspect the rotor surfaces for any signs of warping or irregular wear? You could even have a broken pad internally, IMO you are going to need to disassemble each caliper, assess one by one and clean and inspect while you're in there.

You're right. I should inspect the whole system. I'll do that over the weekend. You don't see any possibility of the idle issue being related to brakes? It sounds weird but it happened at the same time. Hard to believe that was a coincidence.

It sounds like a vacuum issue ...
 

... the Boxster's power brakes use excess vacuum from the engine to help with the pressure required to apply the brakes.
The vacuum comes from from the engine, via a long plastic hose routed up the side of the vehicle, into the frunk, and plugs into the large round brake boost canister that the master cylinder attaches to behind the frunk's carpet lining, on the driver's side.

That's interesting. Do you think it's possible that the hose went loose? I do have a weird noise coming from the driver side (back).

Brake booster diaphragm?

And where's that located? :)

sounds like the booster line to me. Check by the intake manifold all the way to the front of the car. Good luck. Hope you figure it all out. Or the diaphram like stated below.

Little update for y'all!
Brake problem solved. See picture. I had to super glue the hose back as the plastic inside broke.

Now, the Idle is gone completely. No ups and downs like before i fixed the brake issue. If i take my foot off the car dies.

My thought would be to replace the broken part instead of trying to fix it with superglue. Hopefully the glue hasn't seeped into any little places it shouldn't.

I'm thinking maybe the part i need goes into part 23 (see diagram)? I mighgt be wrong.
