new(to me) Boxster S 2000 headliner - torn side strap

noticed after getting this car that the factory headliner straps on the side are a velcro strap that i suppose holds the headliner over a little and not flap in wind,
- these are both torn
has anyone else had this happen, and what can be done? did it happen from p.o. having them too tight and then getting torn when it was put down?

thanks.
