Gemballa exhaust
 

Hey guys,

I just picked up a new (older style but never used) Gemballa muffler for my 2003 2.7 which I am hoping to install in the next few weeks.

I have searched around for pictures etc on removing the back bumper to get to the exhaust area but haven't really come up with anything. My Porsche service manager told me the best way to install it is to get the rear bumper off the car - I agree with him as it looks a bit too tight to do it with it on.

Does anyone have step-by-step pics? I tried Pelican's site with all the 'how -to' stuff but only found the one for removing a front bumper which was really easy.

It can be done with bumper on the car, I had my stock one on and off that way. You might want to pick up a Bentleys manual, it has the step by step.

The rear bumper is easy to remove and makes access to changing the muffler much more manageable. It is just a matter of removing all screws. Lower, upper, wheelwell and behind the rear bumperettes and plate. The rear spoiler has to be removed to access the upper screws which is done by removing the plastic plugs and removing the screws underneath. I cannot remember if the spoiler is held on with srews, torx or allen.

I recommend presoaking some of the clamp bolts with penetrating oil in advance.

Thanks for the comments and replies. Nice pick up Johnny - Yes, it is one of the M&M ones, which I hope will have a great sound. Gemballa's newer model looks more like a box in comparison (and are probably lighter). It is getting installed on Friday. I will try to post a video or sound file once I get it sorted. I hope it sounds fantastic.

Update - I had it fitted yesterday. Initial thoughts, feels free flowing and very loud!
Will have to get used to this. Under load it just sounds awesome. Between 2500 and 3000rpm I can't hear anything but the exhaust...hmmm..... I was told to let it settle in.. Update in a couple of weeks.
