P0201 from Durametric

This is latest in my ongoing MAF code since my rebuild. Also shows P2611, P3311.

Car is 2002 986S, with a recently rebuilt engine, catless mid-pipes, and 987 air box. New Bosch MAF.

P0201
Porsche fault code 115 - Mass air flow sensor below limit value

P2611
Porsche fault code 356 - Multiplic. mixture adapt. lower load range B.1:

P3311
Porsche fault code 358 - Multiplic. mixture adapt. lower load range B.2:

Also has a idle variation from 650 to 800rpms. I tried to find a vacuum leak using a smoke machine to no avail. Have replaced a few worn hoses to the AOS and TBI.

Just over 500 miles on engine. Attempted to have it smogged, rejected for OBD evap and second air inop.

Any thoughts on what to do next? Thanks.

Using your Durametric tool, go into the DME section -> Actual values and check the MAF voltage:

key on engine off: 0.9 - 1.1 volts
with engine idling: 1.2 - 1.5 volts

Your MAF is OK if within these parameters.

Regards,
paul...

Maf

The idling volts is in that range, I didn't check engine off. I did notice 2-3 volts when on the gas.

Thanks

Did you use all the 987 air box including the tube the holds the MAF? If so check the ID of the original and the 987. If the 987 is larger it will though off the CPU.

Yeah I installed the entire 987 box from a Cayman. The Maf attaches directly to the larger tube housing.

I was under the impression that this system could learn and adapt to changes such as this, apparently that is not the case. I got some bad intel it seems. Oh well.

My MAF tests at .9 volt key on, 1.3-1.5 at idle. Should be fine.

I currently have the 987 MAF that came with the used box in there, just to try something different. Now I will put the new one back it and test it for volts.

I also just installed a temporary restriction, to reduce the tube diameter inside the housing before the MAF. It's snowing again today, so I have to wait to road test this.

My car also has Cal emissions, I wonder if I should just go and get it flashed for ROW?

I think you can keep the 987 air box, check out wayne's article on motor swap he had the same problem. Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Engine Conversion Project - 986 Boxster (1997-04) - 987 Boxster (2005-08)

I'm definitely keeping the air box in there. I installed a piece of foam into the tube before the MAF sensor, temporarily, to reduce the inside diameter of it. The car now idle's rock steady. And I've driven it 6 short drives with no CEL. So far I'm thrilled.

I also checked the systems status, and all but 2nd air are pass, which is enough to get me through a smog check here. I don't know why it shows fail on 2nd air, I hear the thing run every cold start for about a minute.

My air pump works fine as well but have the SAI error. Check your oil fill tube. Especially the connections and the underside of the ribbed tube. Mine had cracks. Also those small rubber hoses, straight and L shape that are part of the SAI need to be checked. One of them in my car was almost disintegrated at the bend. Didnt see it until i removed the entire system. Am replacing most if not all parts.

Smog: PASS

I passed the smog test today.

I removed my restriction and replaced it with a much smaller one, car runs great again. So happy to be done with this pain.
