Post Che Exhaust Dyno numbers

A brief background.

I have a 2000 Boxster S. The prior owner overheated the motor and cracked the head. TuneRS in Coral Springs pulled that motor and installed a '01 3.2 which they had built for their track car. I have put about 10K miles on it since the new motor went in.

My "mods":

Snorkle delete, ROW tune and complete Che Exhaust. I could not get a dyno number prior to the exhaust system but here are the results of a baseline run today: I just realized they did not print out the torque numbers but I will post them tomorrow. I was just so excited about the HP number, I forgot to look for torque numbers...

For those with tiny monitors: 254.09 HP :D

very impressing

some questions
1. when you say you have the full Che exhaust system, you mean headers+cat bypass+muffler?
2. if you have the headers, how dose it work with the O2 sensors (and without the cats)?
3. what was the cost for the dyno test? (maybe i will do before and after).
the new engine is a standard 3.2?
4. what is the ROW tune (came across it many times in the forums, still don't understand what it means)

thanks.

maj75 03-07-2012 02:40 PM

1. Yes this is the exhaust from engine out the back, headers, mid-pipe, mufflers.

2. There are no cats. The ROW (rest of world) tune does not monitor the second set of O2 sensors, so no CEL. I just unplugged the post cat O2 sensors.

3. The dyno was three pulls for $85.

The engine is 3.2 displacement but was massaged where ever it was thought that engine reliability could be improved. A LN IMS was installed. I was told the intake and exhaust ports were worked on, and oil passages were polished for return flow. It was assembled as close to blueprinted as possible.

4. The ROW tune resets the DME (engine computer) the the specs in the rest of the world, IE not the US and its stricter emission controls. It is supposed to give a few more HP/TQ. I am sure someone else on the forum could give you a more exact description of the parameters that are changed.

Thanks for the detailed response Maj75.
One more question.
Once the the O2 sensors are removed and the DME remap There is no CEL?

maj75 03-08-2012 09:12 AM

That is correct. There are O2 sensors in the headers (the factory pre-cat sensors) but the second set that would go after the cats are not installed. You could install them in the Che headers, but there is no reason to since they are not monitored.

So will your car pass emissions testing in your state without cats?

no, no and hell no lol....wont pass visual, but I don't think Fl has emissions.

You really have to get a before and after. Rolling dynos are really only accurate to do direct comparisons because they are so sensitive to the calibration.

maj75 03-09-2012 09:00 AM

I am making no power claims for the exhaust. This is my baseline for some other mods.

Here are the dyno numbers for today:

243/217 HP/TQ

248/212 HP/TQ

The max torque number is off because of the spike in the torque curve, I don't count that number.

Meir 03-09-2012 07:39 PM

Who did the ROW update for you ?

maj75 03-16-2012 06:58 AM

Pedro Bonilla did my ROW update.

You can find him on Pedro's Boxster Board or

www.pedrosgarage.com

He is in Weston.

Correct, no testing, no inspections :p

Meir 03-16-2012 08:04 AM

Thanks.
I heard about Pedro.
In fact, I'm thinking abot getting the technopower 2 kit from him, that's why I think inshould upgrade he exhaust system first.
I have the Che delete pips installed, I guess I will order their headers as well.

I lived in Fl in '98 and had to get emissions on my 944,then I lived there again in '02 and had no emissions, so somewhere in there they did away with it lol

I just got that installed last week. I am waiting for the ecu to be updated and then back to the dyno!

I will certainly post the dyno numbers for a nice before and after comparison.

Penland 03-19-2012 11:44 PM

Nice! I'm looking forward to the new numbers,
I'm thinking about getting the technopower kit as well

I have a slow leak in the cooling system at the driver's side front corner. I had that radiator replaced and the y hose, but there is still a small leak. I have to get that problem addressed before I can get to the dyno...

If I understand, you need to get the four wheels rolling at the same speed, otherwise the ABS sensors are going to fool the readings everytime (random values?).

Make sure of that and don't spend all your money at the same place buddy.

Luck with the leak

are you sure about that mate?
not an expert, but i assume the ABS comes in action only when the brake is applied.

Although the actual ABS system is only noticeable when you apply the brakes, that does not mean it does nothing the rest of the time. For instance, how do you think it knows at what rate to unapply and reapply the brakes? It registers what speed you are traveling at and does some crazy equations in fractions of seconds.

A lot more happens under the scenes :P
