Burning Oil Smell
While on a trip, my wife took my 2000 S out for a drive and when she came back she called me and said that she thought that she smelled oil burning when the car was came to a stop and was shut down. The car has 98K miles and has never leaked a drop in the two years that I have owned it. I am afraid to even start it, for fear of doing damage. Where should I start?

Look underneath and check for leaks. Start with the cam covers, they tend to seep oil onto the exhaust which gives a pronounced burned oil smell. Also check around the spark plug coils, the sealing rings on the spark plug tubes also tend to leak.
On top of the engine, check the oil fill tube for cracks. |
The car that was parked prior your boxster leaked oil on the pavement. The heat from your exhaust muffler(s) being 10" above a pool of old dry oil can create some similar smells

I also smell burning oil smell after parking my car. There has no leakage after check up at garage... And now I have my car color changed so sitting at the workshop for couple weeks seems no leakage.... Strange.

Thanks for the input, I'll have to wait a couple of weeks to dig into it to find the culprit.
