Angry MY 04 Boxster broke down today

I decided to leave for the track to go do my daily sprints and bleachers tonight around 9pm. Turn the car off, leave for the track, do my routine and come back to turn on the car and what do I hear? Almost sounds like my transmission mounts are lose, banging from side to side and also a lound pinging inside the engine compartment. I was soo scared at the first turn of the ignition (didn't even fire up), I almost felt like I was dreaming. So hesistantly, thinking maybe the second time it will be gone, I tried to start the car and once I heard that noise again, I stopped right away. My car has 11600miles on the clock and I can't believe this happened. Not only that, PORSCHE roadside has yet to pick up my car from the parking lot of the local highschool after 2 and a half hrs!!!!!!!!! There lucky I live like 10 minutes away from the track. I am soo pissed off, I just had to vent

real bummer. let us know what they find - would be curious to know what came loose.
I've had to use my insurance company's roadside assist a couple of times (USAA) and they were very prompt. I think that if one of my cars tanked I would call them first. Sad to hear Porsche didn't do better on the response time.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I hope everything works out well and it's just a mechanic's wrench in there or something like that.

Waiting 4 hours is inexcusable, unless you break down in the middle of nowhere. Porsche Roadside must be erratic, but it is free and I had a good experience with it here in Portland, Oregon. When my '04 S was 3 weeks old, and the third time I put the top down, the linkage broke with the top stuck half open. Roadside was there with a flatbed in 30 minutes, had it out to the dealership and fixed the same day.

Sounds like the oil pressure switch - surprised they haven't found this quickly

needs new engine....the shaft broke, internal failure...thats what the SA said. Also there checking my tranny for any damage. This really sucks. I'm happy that PorscheNA is in Ontario ,CA, about 20 min from my dealer to have it inspected by the PNA rep and get the OK for the new engine.

Which shaft? Crank or cam?

Sorry to hear that, but at least you're still under warranty.

all they said was the internal shaft broke...i also had that same question, "What caused this?" The answer they gave me was, porsche made a defective engine. It will be replaced under warranty. Anyone looking to purchase an 04 boxster with a new engine?

I'm just wondering how the Porsche roadside works. I'm 50 miles from a Porsche dealer. Will they tow to that location and is there a cost?

i got the car back today with a new engine, and new alignment. I feel some usual shaking/shuddering in the car when in first gear or reverse. WHen I am slowing rolling the car, in reverse or in first, i give it gas and as the tech needle comes down on the RPM the car does a shudder. It is very usual, a little more violent then the normal. Any ideas what could be wrong?
